Huggy Wuggy was originally crafted by Playtime CO. to be a lovable toy for children. The plush quickly became the company’s most successful product. However, prior to the events of the game, he was altered—his human conscience was transferred into him, but the consciousness was corrupted, transforming him into a monstrous entity.
His first appearance in the game shows him pretending to be a statue to deceive the protagonist. Once the player retrieves the key and restores power in a certain room, Huggy Wuggy vanishes from his pedestal. Throughout the game, he stalks the player covertly from vents and high, inaccessible locations. The creature only reveals itself fully in the darkness, emerging from shadows to chase the player through conveyor belt tunnels. If the player fails to reach the safety of the catwalk at the end of the belts, Huggy Wuggy will catch and kill them with his sharp teeth.
If the player reaches the catwalk, they must push a box to block Huggy Wuggy’s path and then destroy him, causing both to fall. Whether she survives or not remains uncertain—Huggy Wuggy ends up falling into the void after hitting some pipes, leaving his fate ambiguous.
